Design Rationale

Lost Flowers follows the life of Alice Hart over three decades. Each chapter is inspired by an Australian native. I commissioned Edith Rewa to illustrate the featured flowers but didn’t want the cover to only be beautiful as the story has dark moments, so I placed them leaning in encroaching on the type with a black background. I chose a typeface with a sense of nostalgia but is modern enough to be relevant now. We wanted to build Holly’s brand so her name front and centre in gold foil. Edith’s illustrations are scattered through the internals to compliment the cover.
