Senior Book Designer, Captain Honey Publishing

Are you ready to jump ship?

Get on board with Captain Honey, an innovative publishing company based in the beautiful hinterland town of Bangalow in the northern rivers (15 minutes drive from Byron Bay). We create illustrated books for the mass market and provide publishing support to self-publishers.

We need an experienced book designer to work part-time (3 days per work) from our offices, initially on a 12-month contract.

Your visual eye, passion for book design and expertise in the Adobe Design Suite are a given – and your portfolio will speak for itself. You will be able to work quickly, efficiently and with attention to detail. You understand and have a passion for illustrated books. You have the maturity and people skills to delegate and manage freelancers where needed.

What makes you different is your ability to see the big picture – you’ll have something to offer at every stage of the book’s production process from brainstorming new book ideas to curating an illustrated book from scratch, using your unique creative ability to tell a story.

You’ll be flexible, open to taking on multiple different types of projects, and can work independently. You’ll be our design anchor able to steer the ship and take us in new directions (and in exchange we promise not to extend the nautical metaphors too far in person).

This role provides a unique opportunity to balance life and work – and to be part of a small but growing business with an exciting future.

Start date and salary negotiable for the right person.

Apply in writing to Natalie@captainhoney.com.au with a copy of your CV and portfolio (or link to these online) and a cover letter addressing the requirements in this ad.
