My goal was to showcase the photos, recipes, graphic styles and symbols of the Baltic regions. I researched into the graphics and patterns used throughout. The symbol used on the front cover is called Māra’s Cross and is symbolic of the protection of material values – household and nourishment. The symbol was traditionally pressed into a loaf of bread before baking. I wanted to treat the cover as a loaf of bread so the decision to drop back the subtitle and author name to a blind emboss allowed the cover to be sparse and for the symbol to stand out.
