About the Designer
Allison Colpoys is an award-winning designer and illustrator, and the Art Director at Scribe Publications. Her picture books include The Underwater Fancy-dress Parade, Under the Love Umbrella, If All the World Were… and All the Ways To Be Smart. As well as receiving numerous Australian Book Design Awards for her illustration and cover design, she has won the CBCA Crichton Award for Best New Talent and two Australian Book Industry Awards.

Natalie’s recipes take your hand and guide you through the baking process. There is extra wisdom offered throughout the method, as well as breakouts for adapting recipes (some illustrated), and fixing fails. There are also separate sections about how much the bake makes, how long it takes, and how to store it. Our brief and challenge was to come up with a setting that accommodated all of these elements in a clean, simple way, while still looking approachable. Similarly with the cover and chapter illustrations, they were to feel both simple, a bit wonky (celebrating imperfections in baking), and generous.
