This is the young reader’s edition of Thomas Mayor’s bestselling Finding the Heart of the Nation.
To speed up the process I created a range of backgrounds from previous illustrations by the artist Blak Douglas and placed the new ones alongside and on top. Textured pages were also added for interest. The font is friendly and approachable with important words highlighted.
We wanted to create a synergy between both editions, so the cover shares some elements. Embossing was used on the title and the hands of the figures to emphasise the heart’s shape. Matte lamination gives it a tactile feel.
