The GOMA Q design was conceived to showcase contemporary Queensland art in a less formal way than in traditional exhibition catalogues. The soft ‘magazine’ style cover attracts the reader’s attention immediately with a die-cut ‘window’ that invites the reader inside, revealing a fold-out artwork page in PMS Blue 072U – a bright, intense hue representing self-expression and coastal Queensland. The tactile, uncoated stock complements the ‘home-grown’, local feel underpinning the exhibition, and the striking silver foiled artist list on the back cover can also be merchandised facing forwards to add further interest. Challenges included working with the printer to ensure the branding / die cut were aligned perfectly at production stage, and assessing dense ink weights and stock choices to allow for the heavily printed blue sections.
