Design Rationale

I was a huge childhood fan of Emily Rodda’s, so I was excited to work on this. The art direction was to make it a modern interpretation of a classic fairytale cover, lots of ornate details and type. I digitally illustrated the cover and endpapers including the marble which was hand generated. There was a lot of symbolism in the book, each illo on the front is a clue to what’s inside. The main cues came from the description of a book within the manuscript. The book was embellished with a red foil to make it special.
