HI BROW LIT WITH ROUGH EDGES: This backlist of the Nobel laureate’s books occupies the extreme high end of literary prestige. The design aims to present this celebrated author with an understatement that suggests classic status. At the same time, his subject matter is fierce and ugly: genocide, racism, murder, torture, rape, humiliation, exile … the worst. The charcoal illustrations are executed in a rough and ready manner, as a counterpoint to the cool template.
