Duncan is a designer with over eight years experience in the book publishing industry, having worked with Black Inc. books in Melbourne and Bloomsbury Publishing in London. He is currently undertaking a Master of Communication Design at RMIT University, and is the publisher at Tempo Haus.

This book was made as part of a studio in the Master of Communication Design at RMIT University in the second semester of 2017, led by Stuart Geddes. The cover was substantially redesigned in February 2018, and the book was published in March 2018 to be made available at the 2018 Melbourne Art Book Fair. The book has since been studied within the The Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program at University of Massachusetts Boston. The idea for Klee Mutations was to mistranslate Paul Klee’s ‘Pedagogical Sketchbook’ – a book based on Klee’s lectures on visual form at
