NIRIN is about challenging dominant narratives. We reflected this by embracing different experiences of the book—each of 50 contributions is made as a standalone booklet, and the booklets are collated in various orders so there is no dominant sequence. The design and production of this book also go hand in hand. We bought a 1982 Heidelberg GTO printing press, and learned to use it, to make this book. We wondered: how can we use an industrial process like offset lithography in unusual and poetic ways? How can we use a machine like this like a brush, or a camera?
