The art world celebrates a diversity of artistic practices, but how does it address the question of cultural differences? “On Art and Friendship” offers new insights into the ways in which art is made and understood. The design of this scholarly volume seeks to balance contemporaneity and timelessness: a time-honoured format, case-bound in linen, is offset by fluorescent ink on the back cover. The overall inspiration is late-Tschicholdian-neoclassicism-meets-a-specific-colourway-of-Balenciaga-Triple-S-sneakers, workshopped by the designer and the author following a chance encounter with a streetwear shop window en route to a meeting. Text set for readability is sparingly punctuated by tipped-in colour plates.
