The photographs in this book were taken on black and white 35mm film, in six weeks, in six cities, across five continents, leading up to the 31st December 1999. Twenty years later, they were exhibited and made into this book. Eschewing the chronological, the book was designed as a sequence that exposed what the photographer was observing: cities, being alone, being together, commerce, friendship, motion, inertia, kindness, carelessness, belief, place. The main design task was to find this sequence. The rest was production design: printing in two blacks and a grey, layflat binding, the right paper, the right size.
