Design Rationale

The most deliberate design choice I made was to use hand made lettering for Scarlett’s voice. The idea was to suggest a chaotic rambling joyous and fragile world where the moon scratches the sky and white bears cha cha outside. The ërealí world intrudes when a typeface is used to announce her pet dogs death or her parents call out to her. Each double spread was designed without a grid system but with regard to the content of the double spread and meaning of the unfolding narrative.
