Shame On Me is a powerful memoir about race and identity. The book is broken up into chapters highlighting different parts of the human body; ‘lips’, ‘eyes’, ‘hair’ etc. My brief was to somehow represent parts of the human anatomy with a literary memoir feel. Initially I tried collage using images the author had supplied for the internals, mixed with found imagery, but it wasn’t looking like I hoped it would. So I started doing a series of contour drawings instead, and thankfully things started to feel like they were headed in the right direction.
