Much like the title itself, this story is packed with moments of light and shade, so it was important to convey this as much as possible through the cover. While photography wasn’t a requisite in the brief, I was compelled to use this image upon finding it as it conveys the main character, Martha, so brilliantly, capturing her despair and mystery, yet is cool and contemporary enough to fit seamlessly within the book’s genre. Peach and pure yellow – not a common pairing – share the colour spotlight, nodding to the book’s wit and beautifully off-centre moments.
