About the Designer
Amy Daoud is a freelance book designer based in Sydney. Her publishing career began in 2011 when she joined Walker Books Australia where she spent six and a half years creating covers and internal design for children’s illustrated books, junior fiction and young adult titles. In 2016, Amy was shortlisted for the Young Designer of the Year at the Australian Book Design Awards.

This action/sci-fi/romance series follows Evie– a genetically engineered human designed to protect and kill. She risks everything to overcome her own DNA and protect those she loves. The brief requested dark, primarily photographic imagery, however cityscapes, weapons and stock-faces were banned. Inspired by the complexity of Evie, I created collages that present her metaphysically. Tree and lightning motifs convey facets of her world – the electrical spurts she feels; the forest of her wild, recurring dream and the DNA ‘roots’ she would rather change. The dramatic poses reflect the series’ violent side while gritty backgrounds and typography reinforce the series tone.
