‘Tapis Volant’ means magic carpet; we wanted to make this title connection more overt with this edition. The Tapis Volant cat (Le Chat Noir) and typographic branding was inspired by the cats in vintage posters that Paris was famed for in the 1860s-1900s. He encapsulates the sense of adventure and realm of possibilities that come with learning a language and exploring other cultures, embodying the idea of ‘French’ as a global language, without using clichés (berets/baguettes). France’s national colour palette (red, white, blue) is used liberally across the series. Internals are clean and structured, using colour to aid with navigation.
