-
The understated cover, encased in weatherworn sailcloth, is a memento of adventures on the high seas. The significance of sailing in the life of the writer permeates the design with recurring nautical leitmotif throughout: sailor knot graphics mark each chapter; an anchor casts the last page. Bespoke binding with a collapsible spine enables the cover to roll out flat, fully revealing the author’s portrait on the inside cover. Modern sans typography, unfussy and self-assured, is a reflection on the nature of the biographer. The family tree, illustrated using found twigs and branches, was inspired by the writer’s own woodwork sculptures.
