Design Rationale

High-visibility Pantone’s strobe at the viewer: WARNING! This non-fiction book will get seriously dangerous, funny and a bit gross. The cover’s introduce mid-grade readers to researched, humorously framed content in a ‘found’ manuscript style, the textured hardcover adds a sensory layer.

Inside, the two colour design continues the ‘found’ manuscript concept as the reader is guided through ‘danger files’, newspaper clippings and post-it notes by an illustrated avatar. The publisher and author encouraged the internal designer/illustrator to have fun illustrating the avatar, which resulted in her occasionally adding her own jokes to emphasis the text.
