Imogen is the art director at Text Publishing, where she has worked as a book designer and production manager since 2011. She manages the book and marketing design program while also designing covers for literary fiction, non-fiction, young adult and middle grade titles. This book is a mix of fantasy, magic realism and climate fiction and the cover needed to appeal to YA while crossing over to adult. Classic novels form part of the story and this was a look we wanted to touch on. I collaborated with illustrator Kate Forrester to come up with an intricate and whimsical design that featured key motifs while also giving the feeling of an epic tale you could lose yourself in. The text needed to be prominent but work in well with the image. Blue foil was used to highlight some of the stars and swirls.
