This is a graphic novel for young readers where illustration plays a significant role in the storytelling (there is no descriptive text). It’s about imaginary characters in the real world so the characters are in an exaggerated style juxtaposed against a realistic environment. A consistent approach to line across both styles allows the illustration to work together. Imperfect lines and mistakes deliberately reveal the presence of the artist. Centred Futura references the ensemble casts of Wes Anderson films. I use upper and lower case for the dialogue (unusual in a graphic novel) to support young readers.
