About the Designer
Imogen is the art director at Text Publishing, where she has worked as a book designer and production manager since 2011. She manages the book and marketing design program while also designing covers for literary fiction, non-fiction, young adult and middle grade titles. The cover needed to communicate the novel’s whimsy and mystery in a visual lexicon recognised by middle-grade readers while also looking distinctly Australian. Hand-drawn type and textures lend a kooky warmth while the cool and unexpected palette has a tang of mystery to pique the interest of the readers’ age group. Visual cues from the novel, such as the peacock egg and tent, were also used to guide readers as to the eccentric and humorous plot.
