“Masculine, dusty, gritty crime. Drugs and exploitation and boredom and nothingness.” This was the description I was given when I was briefed for The Student. I wanted to visually express the real feeling of boredom and nothingness. I used an old student ID card (a prominent feature within the novel) and erased the students face. The hand drawn cloud of scribbles helped me accentuate the dusty and gritty feel the author was after.
