Bright, bold illustrations and colour blocking help to differentiate these modern cookbooks for a new kind of target market. I worked closely with illustrator Alice Oehr, who supplied each ingredient as a separates image. This allowed for placement in and around pages, playing with colour and scale. Quieter spreads, hero ingredients and whacky tableware help the flow of this series into the territory of art books. The playfulness is moderated by a more minimal approach to typography so the books do justice to their recipes. Future editions will continue in this use of poppy theme and colour. – MM
