It’s not everyday you get to design with rainbows. The story of EW Cole’s book arcade is fascinating, but not yet widely known. This meant there were limited pictures available. As long time fans, we searched through Melbourne Museum, State Library and elsewhere to gather new images that would bring the story to life as much as possible. We collected quirky typographic Cole’s books to create endpapers that capture his unique sense of playfulness. The typography reflects Cole’s store signage and the typography in his picture books covers – a respectful nod rather than a reproduction.
