About the Designer
Allison Colpoys is an award-winning designer and illustrator, and the Art Director at Scribe Publications. Her picture books include The Underwater Fancy-dress Parade, Under the Love Umbrella, If All the World Were… and All the Ways To Be Smart. As well as receiving numerous Australian Book Design Awards for her illustration and cover design, she has won the CBCA Crichton Award for Best New Talent and two Australian Book Industry Awards.

My brief was to create a series style design with a mid-century feel. The brief for the pages: to use a lovely clean font and for the type to sit in a small band at the top or bottom of the illustrations. The cover brief was to use very simple typography and artwork from the internal illustrations. We decided to pick out iconic bits and pieces from a variety of the internal illustrations of each book to make a grid of spot illustrations traveling round the front and back of each cover, which we felt also enhanced the mid-century feel.
