Grand Parade Poets use the series template I designed in 2011: title, author’s name, logo, blurbs all occupy the same position, set in the same fonts while colours and visual devices vary. For Michael Aiken’s A Vicious Example, I’ve illustrated the scenario of the book’s longest poem, a record of observations made when the author worked as a security guard, often nocturnally, in various parts of Sydney. I’ve displaced the author’s interest in human and animal ecosystems onto stylized representations of buildings – ghostly and sinister in some respects, showy and carnivalesque in others, teaming with life along the base.
