Design Rationale

My designs for these editions of Russian novelist David Vogelís fiction are a contemporary interpretation of early-20th-century Viennese design, such as the Vienna Secession movement. The colour palette is limited ó black, white and one ëpopí of colour. The aesthetic of these movements represented a break with historic Austrian styles and design, reflecting Vogelís own relationship with tradition and literature. Lilac, green and blue are shared between the three books, on either the front cover, endpapers or H&T bands. The black plate is treated separately; overprinting the colour, it is debossed into the hardcover case and coated with clear varnish.
