About the Designer
Josh worked in magazine design before setting up his company Design by Committee under the mentorship of Australian book design luminary W.H. Chong. He draws upon a broad skill base to offer both illustrative and concept driven solutions to literary fiction, commercial fiction, YA, children’s, non fiction and illustrated book commissions for all of Australia’s leading publishers.

-
Humorous fiction with a socio political and satirical edge: terrorism and small community paranoia being the main themes. I thought that the book should look like a throwback to the bold bluntness of 1980s commercial fiction: a cheesy big name potboiler that guarantees satisfaction. But it’s not of course. The big bold type makes a nice counterpoint to the small sleepy community anxiety the image represents in a simple but effective way. I added a bit of subtle texture and yellowing to the venetians to give them a suitably bought in the 50s and never replaced look.
