Force Fields documents the inaugural Kyneton Contemporary Art Triennial. The book needed to instil a sense of place and time, and speak to the coming together of community (referred to by the publishers as a ‘force field effect’). The designers documented Kyneton’s vernacular architecture and typography. This informed the layout (which has intentional moments of spaciousness and tightness) and a bespoke typeface developed for this title by Dennis Grauel, Kyneton Art Grotesque. The grainy, undulating textures used throughout mimic iron shavings suspended in a magnetic field: gesturing at the book’s title and Kyneton’s industrial, metallurgical history.
