W. H. Chong is the long-time design director at Text Publishing and designed their logo. In 2013 Chong was inducted into the Australian Book Design Hall of Fame. A memoir of becoming conscious of living a lifestyle in capitalism – the brief was to clarify the oblique title and make the subject personal. No special effects budget so visual impact was important. It occurred to me that a purse is one of our most intimate and constant personal effects. It was transformed into a graphic metaphor conveying the title’s sense of possession and dispossession by the simple means of “negative coins”.
