As a novel about a young person trying to understand their true gender, a lot of consideration was put into how the character should be represented. The author had a clear vision, it had to be raw and gritty, yet a beautiful image with a contemporary feel. The usual procedure of searching through stock photography did not have the right result. So with the guidance and collaboration with the author, the right talent and a photographer to create the vision was found. Use of strong bold type, texture and colours helped to cement the vision.
