-
While reading Peggy’s manuscript I kept picturing the earthy, scrubby, overrun surrounds of the Gippsland commune. I wanted to convey that strong sense of place on the cover with a photograph. I wanted the lettering to have a discarded feel, like old rubbish that has been in the earth for ages, to symbolise the neglect at Hope Farm. So I soaked the letters in tea and singed the edges (Hope Farm burns to the ground). I did a mock-up of the full cover, working out where the copy should fall, and took my plan and letters to Royal Park.
