This catalogue accompanied the exhibition John Mawurndjul: I am the old and the new at MCA Australia. The design, shaped by the title, starts with the end papers depicting young and current day Mawurndjul. Showcasing work made over a 40-year period, this publication guides readers in Kuninjku and English through places of cultural significance to Mawurndjul, as well as the sacred places and spirits featured in his work. The mixture of typefaces and alignment allude to the incongruousness of western and Indigenous concepts of time; whilst tensions between typographical forms create an open, engaging yet contemporary aesthetic.
