We wanted the book to feel generous and match the bigheartedness of the author and the people he meets and create and immersive experience. We decided to make a large format book and run most of images full bleed. Rather than having a recipe on a white page we ran images beneath the text to make the most out of them. To break up the book and provide clear navigation I used bright, graphic chapter openers. These were inspired by Modernist Italy, specifically, futurist Fortunato Depero’s 1930s Campari Soda bottles crossed with tangram puzzle shapes that reflect the geometric typography.
