Magrit lives in an abandoned cemetery alongside her skeleton friend, Master Puppet. One day, a stork delivers a baby whom Magrit wants to keep but Master Puppet wants thrown away; “it’s an awful, ugly, terrible thing” he insists. Magrit ignores her friend’s commands and a powerful passage of self-discovery begins. Beautifully strange and evocatively written, this story called for a vivid, fanciful cover. Elements in paper-cut style illustration convey Magrit’s world – in the shape of Master Puppet’s confronting skull. Illustration is also playfully carried throughout the interior, with hand-drawn typography bringing to life Master Puppet’s bold and brash commentary.
