This book documents and discusses NIRIN with the rigorous detail required of a contemporary international biennale. Over 336 pages this includes essays, interviews, artist pages and biographies, and 29 pages of endmattter. However it also captures the messy, informal, energetic spirit of the biennale. This involved commissioning a photo essay of the biennale installation process; foregrounding ‘edge statements’ from each artist about their ‘edge’; attending to fine typographic details required to support the diversity of languages in the book, while embracing the accessibility of Arial and Times. This resulted in a book of unexpected rhythm, tone, pace, composition and weight.
