Historical fiction and a strong female lead, this novel follows the daily life of a servant who becomes a great leader. The brief called for a striking design that could work for a series, and signal its genre while appealing to a wide readership. The celtic pattern hints at the time and place as well as the notion of being tangled up in two worlds—one seen and one not—while the fish ring symbolises one of the ‘skin’ totems. By using stock imagery I had the budget to gold foil the front cover pattern furthering the book’s magical elements.
