Design Rationale

Instead of the dreamy, bohemian aesthetic associated with the vegan cookbook market, we focused on dark, gothic imagery to stand out on the shelves. Because of the existing brand being so strong, the publication had to fit in seamlessly, yet not feel like collateral. The iconic EAT VEGAN Cross logo influenced the design by taking it in a slightly Biblical direction – One serif font, all black & a singular key line on each recipe page. The black book block with a screen printed cross is complemented with a gloss spine. Affectionately referred to as the Nick Cave of cookbooks.
