The challenge from the publisher was to create a covetable item that seamlessly tied fairytales, humour and gift together for a modern audience. The design had to balance Shaun’s hilarious text with Jonathan’s detailed illustrations. Using watercolours and highlights of red, I was able to pace the pages to showcase the humour and envelop the reader in the more sinister plot points. My favourite part of this book was designing the case. If there were no cost constraints I would have debossed each of the foil lines and had a wibalin harcover for extra tactility.
