-
A debut collection of stories by a writer with Finnish ancestry, set in various places: the dark past of the Soviet era, a death in a Finnish lake, a terrible honeymoon in Africa, an Australian school. The cover type’s literal doubleness aims to evoke a foreign tongue with a suggestion of Russian cyrillic, and the ornamented border gestures at twigs and bones, and the uncanny. Contrasting the cool exterior, the inside cover is red, manifesting the stories’ hidden passions. The page headers have different motifs reflecting the individual chapter openings.
