The Fogging is set in Bali and the title refers to a pesticide smoke that envelops a resort. In a difficult process in consultation with the editor and author, a number of directions looking at smoke and fog were explored, while trying to keep it from looking sci-fi.
The water from a holiday pool, and some male feet dangling into the water was the final approach. A bold, confident, commercial feeling typeface was manipulated to interact with the water surface, and a spot gloss was put over the matte cover to pick up highlights in the reflections on the water.
