The astrological structure and themes of the novel led the concept. In the opening scene twelve characters are introduced under the twelve signs of the zodiac. Working with the waxing and waning twelve phases of the moon I merged imagery that evoked the atmosphere of the narrative. The novel is 832 pages long, so the jacket was designed as a series of three equal surfaces. The spine works as a cover when displayed spine out. Referencing the gold rush setting, the typography is blocked with gold foil which illuminates when caught in the right light, and the ribbon is gold.
