About the Designer
Sandy has been designing books for more than 20 years. In 2004 and 2005, she won the Best Designed Book of the Year at the Book Design Awards. In 2011 she was the 7th person to be inducted into the Australian Book Design Hall of Fame. A redesign of the continuing series, with four volumes per year, for roll out beginning in 2020. The design needed to have minimal costs so that the series could remain viable. I offered several directions across 6 sample titles, all deviations from the original emblematic/graphic, 2-colour series. From highly coloured collage to a variety of patterns, coloured and mono, the latter was chosen. All the type design needed to accommodate varying lengths. There needed to be an assurance that the style could sustain an interesting variety and yet, a consistent homogeny for perhaps another thirteen years.
