Mike I Don’t Like is a little guy with a big personality. To tell his story I chose to treat every spread like it was an animator’s storyboard. This let me show a lot of movement on each page, giving readers a “true” impression of Mike’s ultra-animated personality. My technique was hand-drawn illustrations and typography in pencil with ink wash. Bright colours in pastel tones ensured pre-schoolers took notice, without getting their parents offside. Strong black slabs dissect many key moments, and coupled with different sized typography, I had the control to ramp up Mike’s big rant as required.
