The Bogan Mondrian is a powerful YA novel dealing with issues of friendship, grief and domestic violence.The Dutch artist, Piet Mondrian is a key element in both the title and the book, so a Mondrian inspired approach was an obvious concept to explore. Many of the scenes are set at a local reservoir in the Blue Mountains, and I combined the old gum tree and the boy and the dog – which are also significant in the story – spread it over both the front and back cover like a piece of art.
